Owls left a gift?

We found a gift on our mat on the patio that leads to the door into the house. It looks like an item that has been regurgitated, but once had a tail, hair and a head. A mouse perhaps? There were two gifts actually, the second one smaller and not as recognizable as the first.

We think it might have been an owl, just not sure why he was doing his business on our patio. We have great horned owls around here, with their whoo-whoo-whowho calls, as well as other varieties. These gifts are just new to us.

Yes, I have a picture. No, I’m not going to post it here– too gory to share, I’m afraid. Does anyone have any idea as to what this is or where it might have come from? What else besides an owl would swallow a mouse, partially digest it, then regurgitate it?

Okay, Sylvie! Thank you so much for NOT posting the picture. When I lived in North Carolina I would find something similar at the end of the drive by my mailbox. There were some jokes about the mailman making deliveries, but I never found out for sure where my “gift” came from. I feed the feral cats and they drop a mouse on my doorstep from time-to-time. But always whole. Good luck with your investigation. Please post if you figure it out. Happy July!!

The only animal that has left us gifts was our cat, Jeremy. Miss that big orange guy.
