The flowers are budding like crazy in my garden. In the front are peonies, next are the foxgloves. We loved to play with these as kids, used them for swords, or put a pod on the end of each finger and pretended we worked magic with them. Behind those are phlox. It grows wild all over the place and I leave them to seed in the garden because they fill the empty spaces with their beautiful pink to purple flowers and lovely scent.
The flowers in the garden have gone crazy. There are rhododendrons and camelias in bloom, azalias brightening every corner, the Japanese tree peonie is usually the first out but we had frost every night, so the leaves uncurled in the sun, then curled up again with the frost. It took them forever to finally burst forth.
When I open the window, in wafts perfume from the wisteria vine that has actually pulled the railing of the deck out of alignment, it is so determined. I don’t know where it gets it’s nutrition. The root is stuck between two great big rocks.
So far, I’ve planted squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce. Within a couple of days, the rabbits had eaten the lettuce down to about an inch. I dug them back up and put them in a planter on my deck. Now I can eat it and they can’t. π
I’ve just begun writing Lies He Told, Book Four. Not sure what the title will be, but it’s Randy Bonnar’s story. He’s Leah’s brother who moved to the coast to work for Jake in his PI endeavour. Very excited.
I finally got around to filling up the bird feeder and putting it out on the deck for those poor little fellows searching for something to eat.
Then this morning, I was delighted to see four little chickadees flitting about, obviously drawn to the chance of a feast. But were they checking out the seed in the bird feeder? No. They spent their time chasing each other. One bird sat on the top of the hook, waited for others to flit up to the feeder ledge, then dive-bombed them. It looked like fun, but no one was getting much to eat.
